Guidelines for Food Grade Warehouse

A food grade warehouse is a specialized storage facility which acts as a link between the farmers, retailers and the consumers.  These warehouses are extremely beneficial for the users as they help them to store and preserve goods before distributing and delivering them to the concerned addresses. There are different types of these warehouses available which can be classified based on their functioning and mode of operation. As food items are stored in these warehouses, some strict guidelines need to be followed by the providers of such storage facilities to ensure unaltered quality of the food stuffs. Types of Food Grade Warehouse

There are different types of food grade warehouses.  The most common ones are: mentioned here:
  • Frozen or Cold Storage: This sort of storage facility is used for storing all kinds of food products ranging from vegetable to milk products.
  • Dry Storage:  The dry storage facilities are also very common and are used to store dry food items.
  • Refrigerated or Chilled Storage: Another very commonly used storage facility for different types of food items.
Guidelines
There are strict guidelines laid down for the storage facilities. Here are some of them. Check these out and get enlightened:

  • These cannot have leaks on the edges of the walls, roof or the foundation
  • There mustn’t be any sort of garbage, trash or standing water within the close proximity of the facility.
  • The facility needs to be treated with cleaning agents like pesticides at regular intervals for maintenance of hygiene.
  • There shouldn’t be any hole on the frame of the windows or the windows itself as this might allow pests to infest.
  • Any open or cracked pipes or damaged exteriors should be repaired immediately to avoid any mishap or hassles.
When it comes to warehousing for foods, special care needs to be taken in order to make sure that the stored items are free from any sort of contamination. This is the responsibility of the warehouse authority that needs to make sure that if there are any such exceptions, it is being taken care of immediately.

In certain countries, even strict rules have been imposed on the warehousing business. The whole idea is to ensure that the food which is supplied to the market are fresh and are free from any sort of contamination.
